Our Artists
At Pen Wiwar, our designs are not just inspired by Welsh landscapes. They are shaped by Welsh artists who understand the places, stories and feelings behind them.
From the beginning, working with local artists has been one of the most important parts of the brand. We wanted Pen Wiwar to feel creative, distinctive and rooted in Wales, not like a generic clothing brand using familiar places without any real connection to them.
Each design starts with inspiration from nature, a landscape, a memory, a feeling, or a part of Wales that means something to us. From there, we work with local artists who bring their own style, interpretation and connection to the piece.
The result is clothing that carries more than a design. It carries a sense of Cymru.
Designed with Welsh Artists
We are lucky to be surrounded by so many talented artists here in North Wales.
By working with Welsh artists, we are able to create designs that feel personal and authentic. Each artist brings their own perspective to the landscapes and locations we feature, whether that is the mountains of Eryri, the coastline of Pen Llŷn, the wildlife of Wales, or the culture that connects it all.
We want our artists to have creative freedom. Rather than giving them a fixed design to copy, we give them space to interpret the place in their own way. That freedom is what keeps each collection fresh, meaningful and full of character.
From Place to Artwork
Every Pen Wiwar design begins with a connection to place.
Some designs are inspired by iconic Welsh landscapes. Others are shaped by local wildlife, coastal flora and fauna, mountain views, or the feeling of being outdoors in a place you love.
Once we have an idea for a collection, we work closely with the artist to develop it into a finished design. This process is collaborative, but we also trust each artist to bring their own creative style to the piece.
That is why our designs are not just quick illustrations of places printed on a T-shirt. They are true artistic interpretations that help capture the feeling and connection of that place.
Gwenno Llwyd
Gwenno Llwyd has been part of Pen Wiwar from the very beginning and has helped shape the visual identity of the brand.
Gwenno lives on Anglesey and works for the National Park, giving her a strong personal and professional connection to the landscapes that inspire much of our work.
Her view of Eryri from across the bridge became the inspiration behind our Eryri design, capturing the feeling of looking back towards the mountains from a place she calls home.
Her work has brought many of our designs to life, helping us create pieces that feel rooted in the landscape rather than simply based on it.
Sioned Medi Evans
Sioned Medi Evans is the artist behind our Pen Llŷn designs.
Born and raised in Pen Llŷn, Sioned has a genuine connection to the coastline, culture and natural beauty of the area. Her understanding of the local landscape made her the perfect artist to bring our Pen Llŷn collections to life.
Her work also reflects a shared love for the coastal flora and fauna of Pen Llŷn, which made collaborating with her on our Natur Pen Llŷn design feel like a natural fit for the brand.
Tilly Butters
Tilly Butters is a passionate local artist based between Llanberis and Berlin.
Her work is bold, expressive and full of personality, bringing a different creative energy to Pen Wiwar. Tilly has collaborated with other brilliant local North Wales businesses, and her style reflects the kind of individuality and confidence we love to celebrate.
Working with Tilly gives us the opportunity to showcase another side of Welsh creativity: vibrant, distinctive and full of character.
Want to Create with Pen Wiwar?
We are always looking to grow our creative community and work with more artists who share our love for Wales, nature and place-led design.
As Pen Wiwar develops, we want to continue using the brand as a platform for Welsh artists, helping more people discover their work through clothing that is made to be worn, enjoyed and connected with.
Are you an artist with an idea for a future Pen Wiwar collection? We would love to hear from you!
A Platform for Welsh Creativity
For us, working with artists is about more than creating good designs.
It is about celebrating Welsh creativity, supporting local talent, and giving artists a platform to share their work in a different way. Every collection is a chance to tell a story, promote an artist, and help our community feel more connected to the places that inspired the design.
When someone wears Pen Wiwar, they are not just wearing a print. They are wearing a piece of Welsh creativity, shaped by the landscapes, culture and artists that make this place so special.
